Small businesses are the backbone of West Virginia’s economy, and Advantage Valley is working to make sure those businesses have the resources, guidance, and support they need to grow. As both a regional identity and an economic development marketing organization, Advantage Valley focuses on business attraction, business retention, and entrepreneurship throughout its nine-county region.
Through a variety of programs, Advantage Valley helps existing businesses strengthen their operations while also supporting aspiring entrepreneurs and early-stage companies. One of these programs is Opportunity Unlock, a business certification initiative designed to help companies grow and scale by assisting businesses that are woman-owned, minority-owned, or veteran-owned.
The Opportunity Unlock program has been made possible through funding from the Greater Kanawha Valley Foundation. With this support, Advantage Valley has been able to offer valuable services to small businesses across the region, giving local companies a better chance to expand, compete, and move in new directions.
Another key effort is the FASTER WV program, which supports entrepreneurs at every stage of the business journey. From testing an idea to preparing for ribbon cutting, hiring employees, and seeking funding, the program helps business owners navigate the many steps involved in starting or growing a company.
This work is especially important in West Virginia, where small businesses make up a major portion of the state’s economy. These businesses employ local residents, support families, and help build stronger communities. By investing in small business development, Advantage Valley is helping strengthen the region’s overall economic future.
For Advantage Valley, the impact of this work goes beyond numbers. Supporting small business owners means helping people change the direction of their lives, create opportunities, and build something lasting for their families and communities. With the help of partners like the Greater Kanawha Valley Foundation, Advantage Valley continues to support businesses one at a time throughout the region.
The organization expressed gratitude for the Foundation’s support and recognition, noting that this work would not be possible without strong partnerships. Together, Advantage Valley and the Greater Kanawha Valley Foundation are helping create a stronger future for small businesses across West Virginia.
