Our scholarship recipients become part of a legacy of success.
At The Greater Kanawha Valley Foundation (TGKVF), we believe in the transformative power of education. Every year, our scholarship program opens doors for students across West Virginia, providing vital financial support to help them pursue their dreams and aspirations. We know that education is one of the most powerful tools to break cycles of poverty, foster innovation, and strengthen our communities—and we are proud to invest in the future leaders of tomorrow.
Our scholarship program is more than just funding; it is a pathway to opportunity. Since our inception in 1962, TGKVF has partnered with generous donors who share our vision for a brighter future. These scholarships are made possible by individuals, families, and organizations who believe in the promise of young people and understand the impact that education can have on their lives. With over a
million dollars distributed annually through scholarship funds, TGKVF is committed to ensuring that financial barriers do not hinder academic success.
We award scholarships to students with diverse backgrounds, interests, and goals each year—from aspiring engineers and nurses to future educators and artists.
Whether you are a high school senior preparing for college or a current student pursuing an advanced degree, there is a scholarship opportunity for you. Our application process is designed to be simple, accessible, and equitable. We encourage students to share their stories, academic achievements, and community involvement as part of their application.
Beyond the financial support, our scholarship recipients become part of a legacy of success. They join a network of individuals who have gone on to become leaders in their fields, contributing to the growth and vitality of our region. These scholars’ stories inspire us daily, and we want YOU to be part of this legacy.

Whether you dream of becoming a doctor, an entrepreneur, an artist, or a teacher, we want to help you succeed.
TGKVF distributed $1.6 million from 116 funds during the last scholarship cycle. It was a record-breaking scholarship year for us! Our enhanced outreach activities resulted in 848 scholarship applications and 532 awards.
The Pritt Family Scholarship Fund, one of our newest, was a significant contributor, distributing 93 awards totaling $465,000 to students studying at public colleges and universities in West Virginia. The longstanding Marmet and W.P. Black Funds distributed $424,000 and $112,000, respectively. Additionally, the awards from TGKVF’s Scholars Fund went to a recipient from Clay County for a $6,000 renewable scholarship and a runner-up from Kanawha County for a $3,000 non- renewable scholarship. These students received this funding to assist them in their educational pursuits at public West Virginia universities.
